We aim to ensure that our delivery of physical education allows all children to have the skills and mindset to leave primary school with the capabilities to be successful in their sporting challenges and active lifestyles at secondary school and beyond. We strive to educate both our children and families to develop a greater understanding on how to live healthy lifestyles and make healthy choices.
We are dedicated to ensuring healthy minds, as well as bodies and will continue to support our children's well-being. We continue to develop links with local clubs and partnerships within our community to ensure the children and families receive the support and knowledge they need.
At St Elisabeth’s CE Physical Education (PE) is taught from nursery to year six in twice-weekly PE sessions. We follow the Get Set for P.E scheme from Nursery to Year 6.
EYFS
The EYFS curriculum, PE is covered in the Physical Development Early Learning Goals. Children in our Nursery and Reception have the opportunity to complete fine and gross motor activities in a range of high-quality learning areas both indoors and outdoors. During this continuous provision time children are able to develop fundamental skills and master basic movements which will assist them with their overall development. Children in EYFS also participate PE sessions.
Key Stage 1
In Key Stage 1 the lessons are taught by the class teacher or a specialist teacher. During these lessons, children will have opportunities to participate and perform in a range of physical activities.
Key Stage 2
In Key Stage 2 the lessons are also taught by class teachers or a specialist teacher and children learn how to continue to apply and develop their broad range of skills.
Children in KS2 participate in swimming lessons at the local baths. The children also participate in competitions in the area: basketball, football, netball and dodgeball.
Year 6 have an annual residential trip in which they undertake a series of physical and challenging activities including assault course, high ropes course, climbing wall, canoeing, archery, raft building. This allows children to develop a broader range of skills and enables them how to use them in different ways.
